Welcome

So, what happened...?

Shortly after the Summer FM broadcast on Wednesday 29th July 2009, the original directors of Tynedale Community Radio changed the locks on the building, and asked those in the building to leave (in the middle of a live show online). They then deliberately switched everything off and took the station off air (i.e. from streaming online).

What could have triggered this?

Proposed Vote of No Confidence

Just days earlier at the Steering Group meeting on Monday 27th July, an open letter to the directors was circulated. This set out some of the serious misgivings which it was felt should not continue to be demonstrated by the directorate. All Steering Group members signed in agreement and arrangements were made so that missing members could see (and sign if they agreed with the letter) before the document would be handed in.

Before the additional signatures were collected, the directors were "tipped off" and took drastic action, in order that the Vote of No Confidence could be received or registered. A statement was issued on 31st July 2009, by email, dated 30th July.

Directors' Statement

30th July 2009

We, the Directors of Tynedale Community Radio Limited have taken the decision to temporarily suspend broadcasting. After a successful Restricted Services Licence(RSL), we believe it is necessary to restructure in order to secure future key media representation and funding as well as a full licence from the media regulator Ofcom.

We would like to thank our vast team of volunteers for all their continued support.

Our unanimous decision is in part due to the actions of the steering commitee, who, as a group and as individuals, no longer represent Tynedale Community Radio Limited, with effect from 30th July 2009.

The Directors have taken this action in order to secure a Community Radio Service for Tynedale.
